September 28, 2015

Sorry I won't be getting out a big letter this week, and that I didn't last week, but we are working hard here to elevate and inspire the branch here! We will also be working with Elder M from Patio Bonito in a trio, so it is going to be a little more complicated, but it is the Lord's work, and He knows what He is doing, and I know that He is the one guiding us every moment of every day. I am so grateful for the opportunity that I have to serve the Colombian people and the other missionaries as well, Elder M left today in an emergency transfer, and we will miss him a ton! I wish you all a great week and a great general Conference! :)

Love,
Elder Toombs

September 14, 2015

This has been an excellent week. It has been great to be here in Tintal again, and my companion, Elder I, is awesome. He is a super humble guy, and he is teaching me a ton about how I can be a better missionary as well.

Tuesday, Elder S and I woke up in the cold and took off to the transfers meeting! It was cool to see my group again, and to be able to meet up with other missionaries (I had been in Leticia without contact with anyone for 4 months haha). I met President B and his wife! It was good to see them for the first time haha. We went and ate dinner with the Branch President M and is family, it was so cool to see them again. They told me that my Spanish has gotten a little better! haha Then he went on a visit with us to a new investigator that looks like a short version of President Eyring, it was pretty cool haha.

Wednesday we visited a family that was more-or-less active when I was here, the E family. They had gotten inactive again, but are working towards returning to the Temple. We had a great lesson about worthiness and the blessings of going to the temple. I know that they will reach their goal. We also went to visit the branch mission leader Hno. Ga, and his family. They also said that my Spanish had gotten better haha. So Sister G works with the Bogotá north mission, and the president is a gringo, so she was able to obtain-and serve us-homemade bread! It reminded me so much of what my mom used to make, I love you Mom!

Thursday: Yesterday we had also contacted an old guy, A, who lives in our apartment complex. He saw me and wanted to speak English, but then invited us to go to his house and share our message! So we visited him today and had a great lesson, and he said that he wants to be baptized! It was a great experience.

Sunday: It was super weird to see my old branch again. A little sad because things haven't changed much for the better. But now we have the chance to let everything change. It is a privilege to be able to come back here with all the things that the Lord has taught me in the mission, and all the ideas and ways to bring the branch forward. Elder I and I taught about talents in the Gospel Principles class, and then in the last hour, our small group in the Elders Quorum had a good chat about the problems that we are facing. It was a time when the Spirit was there; we talked about the challenges that we face, the problems that we need to fix, and the plans that we will make to reach our goals. I am grateful for the opportunity that I have to be here again. The branch sees it as a way to bring back the old progress that we were making, and I will give everything to help Tintal be better than how it is now.

Today we played soccer as a zone! And I got so tired! I have been used to playing in Leticia which is at sea level, so I couldn't breath at all haha. But we won anyway!

I love the mission, I love the opportunity that we have been given to grow and progress as we help others to do the same. I love the people, and I will give everything that I have in the time I have left to help them to receive the same blessings that the Gospel as given me. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the restored Church of Jesus Christ, and I am more sure of it every day.

Have a great week!
Love,

Elder Toombs

September 7, 2015 By Small and Simple Things!

(There are many pictures of Nathan on Facebook that were taken by members in his last area.  Search for Elder Nathan Toombs to see those pictures.)

Hi everybody!

This week we had transfers... I am leaving Leticia. I have grown to love the place, the branch, and the people so much. I feel like it has been an area where I have really been able to progress and help it to progress. I will be going to Tintal! My first area! It is so crazy, as I was on the airplane today I was just mixed with emotions. But I will go where the Lord wants me to go, and when he wants me to go as well.

Last Tuesday, after the district meeting, we had an intercambio, I went with Elder R to his area. It was great to spend some time with him before he went home (He finishes his mission tomorrow!). We talked and wrestled and really learned a lot from one another; I will miss him a ton.

Wednesday night, as we were getting ready to do divisions with President A to do the interviews with the A Family, he wasn't answering his phone, so we waited and waited and then it was already almost 8 when he called. He didn't want to do the interviews that night, but it was the only way that we were going to be able to help them reach their goal. So I just grabbed on to the back of his motorcycle and we went super fast out to the Kilometros, to the super-far-away A house! So the situation with their family is that the mom and dad, L and L, need to get married before they can get baptized, but the uncle and the kids were all ready, so with the support of the Leticia branch, they were able to get prepared for their baptism.

And Friday they got baptized! It was an incredible experience; J shared a message about the Holy Ghost, then we did a little missionary choir, and got on to the baptisms! Each one of the missionaries was able to perform a baptism, and our Branch Mission Leader as well. They were so happy, and a ton of the branch was able to show up and watch. The most amazing part was when they shared their testimonies at the end. The youngest that got baptized, B, is 8 years old, and shared a testimony that left many with tears in their eyes. Even the parents testified, and I could feel the Spirit so strongly as they shared the change that they had been able to feel as they accepted and lived the Gospel.

Yesterday, Elder R, Elder S and I had to say goodbye to everyone. It was tough; being so far away from the rest of the church and mission caused us to have strong bonds of friendship. I gave away a bunch of ties haha. The A family was also confirmed; It was great, and afterward, the brother that confirmed B could feel something so special in her. I feel so privileged to have been able help find, teach, and baptize this family. I know that they are a family that will truly get to the temple and to the Celestial Kingdom. I have learned that even the small and simple testimony of a well-raised 8 year old girl can change lives, and it has change mine. Because of them, my testimony of the Restored Church of Jesus Christ has been fortalized and increased; I know that His Gospel has been restored again.

This morning we finished saying goodbye by playing micro soccer with some YSA and some Brazilians! I had go to  Brazil once more to get a notebook that a family had for me, then we got showered and changed and hopped on the airplane (The last ones to get on!) I will always remember the people and the experiences that I have had here in Leticia.

So tomorrow I will be in my first area to start my last transfer of the mission. It is too weird for me, but like I said, I know that I need to be there now. I will talk to you all nest week!

Love,

Elder Toombs
